Hi Dionne,

Thank you for the additional information regarding South Hampton Island Meat
Company caribou harvest.  I hope that the proponent has provided a formal
response to the NWB for your files.  The response addresses our concerns,
however, I must clarify it is not that DSD condemns or supports this project
but that all necessary information be contained in permit proposals to do an
adequate assessment.  This must be consistent from one form of industry to
the next.  We apply this standard from the minerals industry, communities
water license applications as well as others.

We will not, rubber stamp a project just because it happens to originate
with another section of our department or from the GN.  To do so would
destroy our credibility with the public and undermine our capacity as
effective regulators.  We must be consistent in our approach to any project
and cannot afford to play favourites.
