QUESTION: FIGURE 4 - AQUADAMS IN RIGHT PLACE

Comaplex selected the indicated sites believing them to be optimum considering location

relative to the activity and topography for containment. Also it allows for secondary

containment downstream, if necessary.  We would be interested in any comments you may

have.

QUESTION: IS PUMP LAKE THE ONLY WATER SOURCE?

Pump Lake is the only lake where we will take water for the underground program.  Please

see the attached map for the bathymetry of Pump Lake.  There is a deep hole exceeding 4.5

m depth that will be  used should extreme ice thicknesses be encountered.  It is just

south of the point shown on the submitted map (Figure 4).  In summer months we would take

water from the shore of Pump Lake.

Our routine operations (summer drilling) are serviced by the smaller ponds (Peanut Lake

and surrounding ponds).  During spring surface drilling operations, we have taken water

from Pump Lake from the point shown on Figure 4.  We do not anticipate conducting surface

drilling and underground exploration concurrently.

QUESTION: WATER VOLUMES, SPECIFIC VOLUMES?

Our estimate of water use from the submission is reproduced below:

Section 55: The estimated rate of water consumption.
Water estimates for all activities on the project are included below.

camp    10

blast hole drilling  10

diamond drilling  40-75

Totals    60-95   cubic meters/day

The blast hole drilling component is the water useage for the underground program.  It is

a relatively minor addition to our water use.  The water is mixed with CaCl to form a

brine that will be collected and recycled underground.  Loss will be made up with new

water from Pump Lake.  The maximum rates of water use shown assume 3 surface drills (20 -

25,000 litres/day/drill).  We do not anticipate operating surface diamond drills during

the undergound program.  If, due to slippage in schedules, we choose to operate surface

drills and conduct underground exploration concurrently, we will limit the surface drills

to a maximum of 2.  This will ensure we are within our 80 m3 limit.

Question: LICENSE TERM?

Comaplex would prefer to receive a 5 year license and would like to request this

modification to our submission, but only if it can be accomplished without holding up the

review process.  Thank-you for bringing this to our attention.

Thank-you

Ben & Sandy:

Looking at figure 4 (site plan) is the proposed location of the aquadams correct?

Subject: water sources and other questions

Hello,

I have another few questions.

Is Pump Lake the only location where water is taken? Or are there other lakes/ponds proximal to drill sites that are used as well?

What volume of water is required in total? And what specific volumes are required for domestic camp use, drilling, and underground?

The current licence covers 80 m3/day. Is this sufficient for advanced exploration/bulk sampling as well or is more being requested?

What term of licence is being requested? Normally the NWB considers 5 year terms but the application indicates Comaplex is applying for a 2 year term. Is this correct?

Some of this information is in the application but it’s difficult to tell with certainty and I’d like to reduce the possibility of Comaplex having to request a second amendment over a minor issue.

Many thanks

Steve

Subject: Comaplex Persondays - Toilet Wastes

Mr. Lines

Apparently my previous email didn't make it to you.  Attached is a table of personnel requirements for the Meliadine underground program.  We will exceed the limitations imposed by Part D, #7 of our existing water license 2BE-MEL0709.  We currently manage wastes for 35-45 people utilizing our existing infrastructure (incineration - blackwater, wetland - greywater) without incident and have done so for several years.  KIA collects water samples annually and has done so for several years that monitor the effectiveness of our wetland treatment.  We believe the existing system is fully capable of continuing to provide responsible waste management and respectfully request that we be granted permission to continue our existing practices and incinerate all toilet wastes for the duration of the program.

Thanks
