As reported in the Globe and Mail recently, The massive Beverly herd, which roams the tundra from northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan and well into the Northwest Territories and Nunavut...[has] fallen by a stunning 98 per cent over the last 14 years. This is alarming indeed. As a recreational paddler in Nunavut, I have noticed a dramatic increase in disruptive mineral exploration on and near the calving ground in recent years. I believe that it is essential that the NIRB discourage industrial development on the calving grounds since it is contrary to the principles of sustainable development and will be detrimental to the First Nations and Inuit who depend on this resource, physically, economically and culturally. I would appreciate being informed of the outcome of this matter which is before the NIRB. Sincerely, J.
