From: John Groves [j9groves@yahoo.ca] Sent: December 3, 2008 7:47 AM To: lpayette@nirb.ca Subject: Uravan - Proposed Garry Lake Development (NIRB file 08EN037) Dear Ms Payette, This letter is to add my vote to those who oppose Uravan's proposed development at their Garry Lake property. I base my position on the fragility of the Beverly caribou herd population and the high risk that development in the area of their calving grounds will further threaten their existence. In my opinion the potential short term commercial objectives of the developer cannot be justified given this risk. We must be mindful that once gone we cannot recreate the caribou but we can always find other ways to supply or reduce our energy needs. Thus the development really isn't necessary in the big scheme of things. I have reviewed the submissions posted on the NIRB website where others more knowledgeable of the details have well articulated the many reasons why the development application should be rejected. I concur with the logic presented and therefore support their conclusions against allowing the development. It will be appreciated if the position of my letter can be taken into account in the application review process. Thank you for your attention to this item.
