The proposal to develop a mine in the calving grounds of this herd is therefore quite unacceptable. Indeed, the calving grounds of all the arctic herds must be inviolate and should be protected by some form of legislation. These herds exemplify that intact ecosystems are still present in Canada and garner much praise around the world, which is suffering the loss of many of the systems that operate on the scale of the cariboo migration. Since I cannot imagine any remedial steps or mitigating steps that would reduce the impact of a mine and its accompanying infrastructure, i see little to be gained by allowing it.
