Calving sites are extremely sensitive systems. And the caribou are a fundamental part of that ecosystem, as well as First Nations livelihood, traditional lifestyle and culture. Recent research has indicated that the numbers of caribou cows seen in the calving grounds has dropped by an astounding rate, and the herd itself has been reduced to 98% over the last 14 years.
