Dear Sirs,

 

Even as far away as the UK I have become aware of the huge decline in the size of the Caribou herd in the Barren lands of NWT and Nunavut and also understand that the calving rate (expressed in calves per 100 cows) has declined to just one fifth of normal levels.

 

While no one is certain of the reasons for this decline of population, additional mineral exploration, extraction and development cannot be helping and I would urge you to consider this and refuse the current Uravan application for the development of their proposed uranium operations in this area.

 

I understand that uranium has value but the value of the natural herds is far greater for many more reasons.
