Environmental Administration I am writing this email to express my opposition to Uravan’s plans for mineral development on the calving grounds of the Beverly caribou herd. Recent studies have indicated that several arctic caribou herds are in decline. Monte Hummel, caribou expert at the World Wildlife Fund has said that the reason for the Beverly decline is likely linked to mineral development. Major mining companies – De Beers, Areva, and Cameco – have declared that they will no longer conduct activities on caribou calving and post-calving grounds in Nunavut, because they understand the implications of this activity. Please take the appropriate action to protect caribou for future generations - deny Uravan’s application and safeguard the calving grounds. Thank you, Richard Strus RR 4 Bancroft, Ontario K0L 1C0 richard.strus@sympatico.ca
