From: andy thomson [andythomson.pog@sympatico.ca] Sent: December 8, 2008 12:02 PM To: lpayette@nirb.ca Subject: Uravan Mineral project I am writing to request that you deny the decision to allow this company to develop its mine on the Beverly Caribou calving grounds. The herd has already been decimated and development of this nature will only lead to the extinction of this valuable herd. I speak with some personal concern because last summer I visited Baffin Island for a canoe trip down the Soper River. I went hoping to see scores of caribou that I had read about from people who had canoed the river. Unfortunately we saw only one. I would like to return to Nunavut to canoe in the barren lands some time in the future and I look to your government to preserve its wildlife resources for many who come to your territory to see wild animals in their natural habitat. If you allow this mine to open what will happen to the Beverly Caribou Herd? There are enough uranium mines in the world, but how many caribou are left? Please make the right decision and disallow the Uravan Mineral project. Your sincerely, Andy Thomson
