The Beverly herd is in crisis with decimated numbers and caribou herds are an icon of the tundra and are as important to Inuit hunters as they are to canoeists from all over the World. At the very least the application should be 'shelved' until the Beverly herd decline is understood. To allow development in a proven calving area shows that mining interests and their powerful lobby trumps environmental considerations.
