The demise of any endangered species robs humanity of another strand in the delicate web of life. The Arctic region is especially sensitive. 1. The disappearance of the caribou herd would deprive a large indigenous population of an important food source. 2. The caribou are dependent on their environment for their food and for their calving grounds. Many smaller species are dependent on the presence of the caribou for their survival. It would be a great crime against nature to allow mining in the calving grounds. Canadians should be leaders in conservation, not destroyers of the environment. Yours sincerely, Judith Humphries
