I was horrified to learn about the decline of the numbers of caribou based on the summer aerial surveys. To contemplate ANY development at this time, especially mineral extraction which leaves permanent scars in sensitive tundra lands and people, is unthinkable. Having personally witnessed only a tiny fraction of the Beverly herd, it was truly awe inspiring. Given its current endangered state, hanging by a thread from extinction (from yet to be determined causes), all efforts should be made to preserve this fragile life resource. Gold, diamonds and uranium have been there for millions of years - leave them in the ground for now as they will not die out or run away. The temporary riches provided by mineral extraction certainly would not replace the permanent loss of lifestyle and culture northerners have developed over eons. Future generations of Canadians are depending upon you to make the right decision. Refuse the application for development.
