It has long been my pipe dream of canoeing the Kazan River in the hope of witnessing the Caribou migration. The first hand descriptions of this event I have found breath taking. This back ground might serve to explain my motive for contacting you. I have just recently been startled to learn that the Beverly caribou herd has all but disappeared. Sadly the cause is not known but those with expertise and first hand knowledge of the area and the issue are urging denial of the Uravan Mineral application for mineral development of uranium on the calving grounds south of Garry Lake. I in turn urge you to follow their recommendation. I may not live long enough to see the herd but I would urge all to do what they can to make it possible for my grand daughter (who has become my canoeing partner) to see them some day. This ofcourse isn't about my grand daughter or about me but about everyone who treasures the north. Thank you for your consideration. Alex Kleider alex@kleider.ca
