We have traveled throughout the Barrenlands yearly since 1961 and have personally seen the decline of the Beverly Herd. It is now but a pathetic remnant of what was at one time a magnificant spectacle. To even consider permitting any mineral exploration or development in the extremely sensitive calving grounds is the same as driving that herd into extinction. It has happened before, and it will happen again if you permit the greed of a few to take precedence over a national and regional treasure. So there can be no misunderstanding, let us reiterate one more time that we see no logical or legitimate reason for granting Uravan permission to conduct activities that are detrimental to what is left of the herd itself and to all of those who are directly involved in its well-being. Please take whatever action is necessary to make sure that Uravan does not get the opportunity to destroy a precious heritage. Sincerely Jay and Carolyn Pritchett Petersburg, Alaska
