I know how fragile their habitat is because I worked on a uranium exploration project in the Thelon basin during the 1980's. I suspect that rapid climate change is adversely affecting the caribou herds' viability, but at the same time human industrial activity is compounding the pressures on the herds. I believe we must give the caribou a wide berth until their populations recover and stabilize. Therefore I oppose the granting of Uravan's mineral development application because it falls within such a critical area of the Beverly herd's calving grounds.
