You may ask why an American would be concerned about this and conclude that this is strictly a Canadian issue. In response I would say that the fate of the great Canadian caribou herds is an important issue for people all across the world. There are very few places where great migrations of large mammals still occur. Secondly, these great migrations attract tourist dollars. My colleagues and I have spent thousands of dollars in recent summers on canoe trips in Nunavut. In the long run maintaining the Beverly Caribou Herd makes economic, cultural, and ethical sense.
