Unfortunately I am running short on time to send out individual notices to individual permitting institutions. I hope this does not cause too much upset. I have sent my crew to Southampton Island to begin setting up camp. After several hours of flying, however, it became evident that the proposed site submitted to you in the permit applications is not sufficient to meet the needs of the twin otter. As a consequence of this we have been forced to amended our camp site location to IOL parcel #CH-24 (N 64 deg 48.68'; W 84 deg 46.47'). Also see attached file. I have contacted the KIA (Permit No. KVX07N02) requesting permission to amend the location of our camp to the site proposed above. I have just received a letter by fax from Maria Serra stating that an amendment to our KIA permit has been submitted. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Joyia Chakungal, PhD Research Scientist Canada - Nunavut Geoscience Office 626 Tumiit Plaza P.O. In the future any updates to your land use permit application should come through this office first. This way we can review your changes and make sure everything is still ok. Once we have completed our review we will then forward the information to NIRB. In this case, your camp is still located on crown land and there are no issues. Unfortunately, bringing in fuel before the land use permit is issued is not allowed. You will have to wait till the NIRB decision is made and the land use permit is issued. If you have any questions please give me a call at 867-975-4283. Before everyone submits their comments at the end of this month I would like to bring to your attention two changes to the project activities list below: 1) Our camp will no longer be situated along Mathiassen River. Upon inspection of the air photos that are available for the area, and advice from the hamlet of Coral Harbour, our new camp location will be situated along a tributary of the Kirchhoffer River (see attached file for exact location and co-ordinates). 2) We will have up to 20 people staying in camp at any given time. Final tallies and names of personnel are currently being finalized. Should the committee require a copy of the finalized list, please don't hesitate to let me know. Finally, we have arranged for a twin otter to be charter through Polar Continental Shelf for the period of June 10-16th. The purpose of this flight time is to transfer and cache our fuel (to be used for the helicopters that will be stationed in camp) and camping gear from the hamlet of Coral Harbour to the newly proposed camp site. Considering the screening stages our application must still go through, would the committee advise whether the mid-June time line for fuel caching is reasonable? Many thanks for your time, consideration and patience in this matter. Should you have any further comments, questions and/or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me (Joyia) directly.
