The main areas of concern will be the main drum cache, AST, solid waste landfill, historic landfill, and historic fuel spills. A2: Approx: 40 test pits, 10 monitoring wells, 40 soil samples, 30 water samples, 30 veg samples A3: Soil samples will use a combination of hand auger and test pit to a max depth of 2 meters (approx. depth to permafrost). A4: The areas of concern with fuel spills and solid waste is within the airport. It may require taking few water and veg/soil samples via hand auger in areas outside the airport boundary, however, a backhoe can not access these sites. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Neary, James Sent: Tuesday, October 06, 2009 12:59 PM To: 'Kelli Gillard' Cc: info@nirb.ca; Molinski, Michael; Pederson, Darryl Subject: RE: Resolute Bay Risk Management Plan - questions about project description Good afternoon Kelli I'll try and get some answers for you. James -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Kelli Gillard [mailto:kgillard@nirb.ca] Sent: Tuesday, October 06, 2009 12:54 PM To: Neary, James Cc: info@nirb.ca Subject: Resolute Bay Risk Management Plan - questions about project description Good day James, I am Kelli and a new Technical Advisor with the NIRB. I have been assigned your file for the Resolute Bay Risk Management Plan and we received an answer from NPC today that your project does not require an NPC conformity determination so we are able to start screening your file. However, I have a few questions for clarification based on your project description. 1. You are going to do vegetation, water and soil sampling, however you do not indicate where the sampling will take place in either your verbal description or on the map you provided to us. 2. Do you have a general idea of how many samples you expect to take in identified areas? 3. With the soil sampling you indicate you will be hand sampling and/or trenching. You say that the trenches will be 1 to 2 m in length, how deep do you plan to go? 4. Is your plan to stay on airport property? I ask because there may be a potential to see soil staining as it migrates off property and if so will you be determining the extent of the contamination at this time thus going off property? This additional information is required to finalize how we will be handling the assessment of the file here at the NIRB. Thanks in advance for your help James and I hope you have a great day.
